Peroni Nastro Azzurro

Brewed by:
SABMiler

Style:
Premium Lager

 ABV: 5,1%

 Country: Italy

The Peroni company was established under the founding family name in the town of Vigevano, Italy (1846). The company was moved to Rome by Giovanni Peroni in 1864, six years prior to Rome becoming the Italian capital in 1870. Throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the company became one of the most prominent brewing companies in the newly unified Italian nation.
The London-based brewing giant SABMiller bought the company in 2005, making it one of the few international brands in its portfolio. To re-launch the brand, SABMiller hired an empty boutique on 202 Sloane Street, London to align it with other Italian fashion brands; the boutique was entitled "Emporio Peroni".
Peroni is the Peroni company's original brand, and according to Assobirra, the second best selling pale lager in Italy. It is 5.1% abv, and is made with barley malt, maize, hop pellets and hop extract. By the 1950s and 1960s, Peroni was the most recognized brand of beer throughout the Italian peninsula. The following decade saw the expansion of Peroni into foreign markets through international distribution, itself spurred by recognition of the increasingly popular advertising for the Peroni brand. Today, market research confirms Peroni as the most recognized and most widely consumed Italian beer.

Leffe Blonde

Brewed by:
Anheuser–Busch InBev
Style:
Pale Ale

ABV: 6,6%

Country: Belgium

The origins of Leffe and the abbey of Leffe

The abbots owe their roots to the Norbertine fathers, followers of the rule of St. Augustin. This Premonstratensian Order was sent to a magical site nestled in the Leffe valley between two rivers - the Leffe and the Meuse. Two churches had been built there in 1060. In 1152 Count Henri the Blind of Namur donated both the churches and the land to the nearby Floreffe Abbey, which became the Abbey Notre-Dame de Leffe in1200. The Norbertine fathers were excited to discover on the site a mineral spring, limpid and pure. In 1240, this water became the basis for Leffe when the brewing of the beer in its earliest form sprang to life. The Abbey purchased and received additional lands, including a hop field, and acquired a mill and baker.  Source  www.leffe.com

Stela Artois

Brewed by:
Anheuser–Busch InBev

Style:
Euro Pale Lager

ABV: 5,00%

Country: Belgium

Tax records exist from 1366 for the Leuven-located brewery Den Horen (literally meaning "the horn" in Dutch/Flemish). In 1708, Sebastien Artois became the master brewer at Den Horen, and gave his name to the brewery in 1717.

In 1926, Stella Artois was launched initially as a seasonal beer for the Christmas holiday market. First sold in Canada, it was such a commercial success that it became available all year round, and, apart from the duration of the Second World War, has been produced ever since. The first Stella Artois beer was exported to the European market in 1930. By 1960, about 100 million litres of Stella Artois were being produced annually. Whitbread began to brew it under contract in the United Kingdom from 1976. InBev, the merger of Belgian Interbrew and Brazilian AmBev, opened a new, fully automated brewery in Leuven in 1993, and by 2006, total annual production volume exceeded a billion litres.

In 2012, AB InBev, the makers of Stella Artois, Becks and Budweiser, announced that, for the UK market, they were reducing the alcohol content across their range of beers, from 5% to 4.8%. The original strength of the lager was 5.2%.
